
From the Fairfield, Vermont Municipal Plan 2021-2029: Fairfield, having about 47,000 acres, is the largest town in Franklin County. It is situated about 30 miles northeast of Burlington and is bounded north by Sheldon, east by Bakersfield, south by Fletcher and Fairfax, and west by St. Albans and Swanton. Vision Statement:
1. It is the primary and fundamental intention of Fairfield to remain a rural, agricultural town.
2.Fairfield supports its agricultural economy and looks forward to a future where working lands continue to be in production for diverse forms of agriculture.
3. Fairfield encourages the development of small-scale enterprises in the village centers of Fairfield and East Fairfield that will offer basic goods and services for town residents, that will provide employment locally and that will enhance the town’s rural way of life.

As of the census of 2020, 2,044 people, 781 households, and 585 families resided in Farifield.
The Town of Fairfield seeks an on-call Animal Control Officer (ACO) to investigate local complaints pertaining to domestic animals (i.e., dogs/ animals running at large, unregistered dogs, bites, barking, cruelty reports, etc.) while enforcing the municipality’s Dog Ordinance. The ACO must be able to: interact with animals without causing harm; properly use animal control equipment; write reports; interact thoughtfully and communicate effectively with the public, with other town officials, and the Franklin County Sheriffs Department. Responsibilities include impounding animals and issuing tickets for violations, if needed, according to the municipal ordinance and state statute. VT Driver’s License, reliable transportation, willingness to publicly share phone number, and availability to work irregular hours required. Successful candidates must like dogs and be skilled in conflict resolution. Pay rate: $18 per hour plus mileage reimbursement at the current IRS Rate. The Town of Fairfield is working on an update of its zoning bylaws with the goal of ensuring that the bylaws support the plan’s goals and policies, with a particular focus on regulations in the rural areas of the town.

The Planning Commission has been working on an update of its zoning bylaws with the goal of ensuring alignment of the Town Plan and Land Use Regulations. The primary focus is on prioritizing protection and ongoing use of agricultural lands through regulation of subdivisions and density. The community forum will include a summary of the work completed so far and provide opportunities for your input and feedback.
